Schedule of Fees

The Schedule of Fees for the period of 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 is now available.

Annual indexation of fees

Under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program, the GST exclusive amount for service items will be adjusted on the 1^st day of each financial year, in accordance with the following indexes

• The Wage Cost Index 1 for the majority of items, this being a weighted average of estimated movements in wage costs and underlying inflation. The resultant GST amount will be rounded to the nearest cent, and
• The Consumer Price Index for client maintenance contributions.

Indexation of service items takes effect from 1 July each year.

Transitional impacts

Where

(a) a service is service item 630, 631, 635, 636, 640, 641, 650, 651, 655, 656, 660, 661, 760, 761, 770, 771, 820, 821, 825, 826, 830 or 831, and

(b) the date of fitting occurs prior to 1 July 2020, but the date of service occurs on or after 1 July 2020

The device prices payable are those specified under the previous Schedule of Fees, prior to 1 July 2020. The service fees payable are those specified under the Schedule of Fees under the Service Provider Contract, from 1 July 2020.

Dispensing fee for behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids fitted

For item numbers 630, 631, 640, 641, 650, 651, 660, 661, 760, 761, 770, 771, 820, 821, 830, 831, 840, 850 and 960 only an amount added to each behind the ear hearing aid fitted is $27.40.

Payments from Clients

Annual Hearing Aid Maintenance Charge

The annual hearing aid maintenance charge collected from the Client is $47.25 ($45.00 base fee plus $2.25 GST).  This GST amount is not recorded on the claim for payment form but must be declared in your Quarterly BAS Statement for each client who makes a payment within this period. This charge is GST inclusive and is payable by the client in relation to items 630, 635, 640, 700, 710, 790, 791.  Cash transactions should be rounded to the nearest five cents ($47.25 for an annual hearing aid maintenance charge).

Replacement Fee

Where the hearing device replacement fee is not covered by items 555 or 888, the fee charged to the client is $42.20.

Claiming services

All services must fall within the voucher issue and expiry date.  Services that are provided outside of the voucher period will not be approved.  Providers are responsible in ensuring the client has a current voucher prior to services being provided through the program.

Note: The date of service for these item must be at least 1 week after the date of fitting.

Maintenance (client co-payment $47.25)

Note:  Where a client transfers away from you, then transfer back to you, an item 711/722 should not be claimed if a current 700/710 is still active. You will entitled to claim an item 700/710 once the current maintenance expires.

Replacements

Note: When a client has lost / damaged their hearing device and requires a different style of device, category / tier or an ALD, a refit is required, NOT a replacement.  The same applies to a lost / damaged ALD. 

Other

Note: The purpose of a review is to prolong the current use of hearing aid/s currently fitted to the client, therefore an item 930/940 should not be routinely claimed in instances where a refit is due to take place. 

However, if you can support a reason for a review and clearly document on the client file that sufficient services were provided, including testing, adjustments etc. on the current devices, and this was not successful requiring a move to refit then the program would accept an item 930/940 to be claimed.

Aids Returned for Credit (RFC)

Item 1 is when the client has been monaurally fitted and does not want the aid – the aid is returned to the manufacturer and a credit is given to the provider. The payment made is half the cost of the initial fitting of item # 650, 655, 770, 820 or 825 that does not contain the maintenance component.

Item 2 is when the client has been binaurally fitted and does not want the aid – the aids are returned to the manufacturer and a credit is given to the provider.  The payment made is half the cost of the initial fitting of item # 660 and 830 that does not contain the maintenance component.

Note: The date of service for these items must match the original fitting date of the device before they were returned when the claim is submitted.
